How to decipher the marking of the electric meter?

Like any other device, the electricity meter has its own marking in the form of a digital and alphanumeric code. This set of numbers and letters makes it clear to a knowledgeable person what voltage the electric meter is designed for, how it is connected, what accuracy class it has, etc. Today, you can find several options for designations on metering devices, so in this article we decided to consider on the website Elecroexpertwhat the labeling of electricity meters and their decoding looks like according to generally accepted standards. As an example, we took the standard marking of induction electricity meters, as well as electronic, using the popular model Mercury 230 as an example.

Induction Model Conventions

To choose the right meter, find out how to decipher the symbols on its front panel. The picture shows a general scheme for marking induction energy meters.

Marking Induction Meters

The marking presented above is applied both to three-phase, and for single-phase devices.

The first letter indicates the type of device, that is, the counter (C). The second symbol determines the type of energy taken into account, it can be active (A), or reactive (P). On single-phase devices, this marking is absent, since it is understood that the electric meter measures active energy.

In third place is the letter or number. A single-phase electric meter is indicated by the letter (O), on three-phase it is indicated which system it is intended for, 4 - for four-wire, 3 - for three-wire (without neutral wire). The letter (U) means versatility that can be switched on through any current transformers.

Marking containing the letter (I) refers to induction models. Further in the designation may be present:

  • series of constructive options;
  • designation type designation (P - for direct connection, T - for tropical climate, M - upgraded);
  • operating voltage and current values for which the device is designed;
  • year of manufacture and serial number.

In addition to the characteristics listed here, there is one more that is not included in the system of symbols. An electric meter, like any measuring instrument, has a certain accuracy class. This indicator characterizes the error of the measuring device. The photo shows the front panel of the induction counter, on which the number 2 is in the circle.

Labeling Examples

With the invention of electronic metering devices, a large number of manufacturers of these products have appeared. A single system by which the labeling of electricity meters could be determined was not adopted. Each manufacturer uses its own product designation.

Consider what marking is used by the manufacturer producing the Mercury 230 electric meter.In addition to the name itself, the marking of the electric meter may contain symbols, the interpretation of which is given below.

  • Type of measured energy (A - active, R - reactive, AR - both types).
  • Marking (T) indicates the presence of an internal tariffifier.
  • The number 2 means that the electric metering is carried out in two directions.
  • P - there is an event log (the facts of disconnecting and opening the counter are recorded).
  • Q - power quality control (voltage, frequency, harmonic coefficient).
  • C - availability of CAN interface for communication with external devices.
  • I - installed infrared port. The device is commonly used for remote reading.
  • G - built-in GSM modem. Such an electric meter is capable of independently transmitting readings and other information via a cellular communication channel.
  • L - PLC modem. This device uses low voltage electrical networks to transmit information.
  • M is a modified PLC modem.
  • Shelter - the design contains a reporting device.
  • USPD - the counter contains a device for collecting and transmitting data. Used in automated accounting systems - ASKUE, ASTUE.
  • B - a backlit indicator is used.
  • S - The interface is equipped with internal power.
  • D - the electric meter is equipped with backup power.
  • N - sealing was performed using an electronic seal, which is an autonomous microprocessor device equipped with a memory. An electronic seal records the fact of opening the meter and can independently transmit a signal.
  • О - the load control relay is built into the device. This function allows you to disconnect the load either in manual mode, using the button, or by programming the shutdown when reaching the set limits of consumption.
  • K - the ability to control external devices to disconnect the load.
