Why has the power consumption doubled?

Lyudmila asks:
Hello. Since December, the electricity consumption on the meter (three-tariff NEVA MT1) has increased 2.5 times under the previous conditions of consumption. The meter wizard has detected that the leak is coming through wires. An electrician visually determined that no one had connected to us and blamed the meter. I learned from your article that there may be a problem in the old wiring (although partially the old aluminum was replaced by copper) and its insulation. Can an electrician from the housing office check the wiring or look for other specialists. Or is there something else?

The answer to the question:
Hello! The leak is such that the expense has doubled - it sounds implausible. This is no longer a leak. But the fact that the electrician blames the counter is pretty sensible. The wiring is checked with a megohmmeter and very accurate. Find who can do this in your city and you will receive reliable information about the status of your wiring. If the insulation is really very bad and there are strong leaks, then the meter may be fine. And on your own, you can check how the meter considers it, if you connect a device with a known power, for example, a 100-watt lamp, and see how much the meter wraps in, for example, 1/2/3 hours of use.
