Why is the electric plug heated when the water heater is connected?

I connect a water heater. W-1.25 kW. Extension cord without marking: 22 copper conductors, each diameter 0.1 mm. Meryl with a barbell. So, the cross section is more than 3 mm.sq., must withstand more than 5 kW, and the plug is heated. The joints are tightened well. Why is it warming up?

There may be several reasons for heating the electric plug of the water heater. The first - the plug itself is weak, designed for less current. Replacing the plug will help solve the problem. The second - different standards for plugs and sockets. As a result, the plug pins dangle in the socket, and poor contact is the reason for heating. Third - the outlet itself is heated due to weak contact in it. Heating is transmitted to the plug. In this case, you need to disassemble the extension cord and tighten the wires plugged into the outlet.
However, the safest option is to make a separate outlet for connecting a water heater.
