How to sound an outlet from neighbors - 3 effective ways

A common problem faced by residents of apartment buildings is the good audibility of neighbors. It arises due to poor joining of plates, cracks in the walls, as well as due to the peculiarities of the installation of wiring products. The latter is especially often observed in panel houses. Therefore, we decided to talk about how sound insulation of sockets, switches and mounting boxes between apartments or rooms can be made.

Causes

To begin with, when installation of hidden electrical wiring and the installation of built-in wiring accessories, you drill holes with a crown. In any case, this makes the wall thinner and leads to a deterioration in the soundproofing properties of the walls and partitions in the apartment.

Poor soundproofing in the bedroom is a particular discomfort if this room borders on its neighbors.

What are the reasons for strong audibility in high-rise buildings? In Khrushchev and panel houses of other years of construction, the panel design provides for the presence of channels for wires and through holes for installing sockets and switches. They are needed to speed up the construction process and reduce operations during electrical work.

Neighboring outlet

For information, the thickness of the plates is usually 12-16 cm, which means that you have a permissible depth for the installation of electrical products and sound insulation of 6-8 cm.

So it turns out that from your apartment there is a small window to the neighbors - the sound comes from there, and in bad cases the wind blows, an unpleasant smell comes in, bacteria and others penetrate.

Through hole

In private homes there are problems with street noise - barking dogs, passing cars, and more. And the need for soundproofing of outlets arises with the soundproofing of walls and ceilings, in particular with the subsequent suturing of walls with drywall.

Soundproofing Methods

There are three ways to soundproof the sockets and switch boxes:

  1. Migration
  2. Replace the built-in on the consignment note.
  3. Use specialized materials and means for sound insulation without transfer.

Consider the main methods and what materials can be used in order to soundproof the sockets in the apartment from the neighbors.

With outlet transfer

The transfer of sockets is one of the simplest and, at the same time, complex solutions. The fact is that for the transfer of wiring products there is a need wall chipping, and this, in turn, is prohibited according to the Resolution of the Government of Moscow of February 8, 2005 N 73-PP "On the procedure for the reconstruction of premises in residential buildings in the city of Moscow." Clause 4.2., and Government Decision No. 508 (Clauses 11.3 and 11.11 of Appendix No. 1).

Nevertheless - this can be done when you will once again make repairs in the room. The easiest way is to transfer the electric points to another place, if you are suturing the wall with drywall, then you can tightly cover the rosettes. At the same time, it is possible to conduct a comprehensive soundproofing of the room from neighbors and the street.

When walling with transfer of sockets, The old places of their installation are closed up with alabaster or plaster. In order not to affect the territory of the neighbor, in the middle of the wall, a gasket is installed from the same GCR or other material.

Sound insulation scheme

Soundproofing of the walls is done using specialized materials, such as acoustic basalt wool. Sometimes called stone wool, it is sold either in rolls or in mats (rectangular pieces). The walls themselves can be sheathed with soundproof gypsum plasterboard Gyprok Acu-line. For the same purpose, you can use basalt cardboard. But with sound insulation, you need to remember that the greater the mass and density of the wall - the better.

The most popular manufacturers of basalt wool for sound insulation are Rockwool, TechnoNIKOL and Knauf.

However, when you make a hole for the socket in the drywall, you will have to remove the soundproofing material to install the socket in this place. As a result, noise can still come from here.

Drywall Box

To avoid this, you can either mount the casing at a greater distance so that there is room for soundproofing of the sockets in the gyro, or use various acoustic boxes for wiring products, such as Soundguard IzoBox boxes.

Soundguard Box

Its counterpart is the Tichoblock box. They provide sound insulation at the level of 36 - 38 dB.

Tichoblock Box

At the same time, the box itself and cable entry points are sealed with an acoustic sealant such as Vibrosila, TichoFix s30 and others. You can make such boxes yourself, see the video below for an example:

Such boxes can reduce noise not only if the walls are sewn with plasterboard, but also if you make a niche under them and mount in the walls of solid materials such as concrete slabs, bricks, cinder block, etc. But remember about the prohibition of gating in panel houses.

No transfer

Consider how to organize sound insulation of outlets without hand-made transfer. This method is preferable if you need to get rid of noise quickly and without unnecessary costs. The easiest option is:

  1. Disconnect the apartment.
  2. Remove and unplug the power outlet.
  3. If there is, then dismantle the socket.
  4. In the middle of the wall, make a partition from plastic, cardboard, a round log cut from a sheet of drywall and other hard materials.
  5. Coat it with alabaster, gypsum or other available solution. Here, be careful not to short circuit the wires of the outlet at the neighbor, the solution should not be too liquid and water should not flow from it.
  6. Wait for drying and install back the socket and the socket.

Dismantling the outlet

To achieve better results after 4 points of this list, you can not lay the solution, but lay a layer of soundproofing material - basalt wool, acoustic mats, install several layers of acoustic drywall or use membrane materials. In general, cut a tight round cork.

Sound absorbing plug

Popular manufacturers of sound-absorbing membrane materials include Tecsound, Mapesonic, Front Acoustic, and also Soundguard.

If there is a possibility of gating walls, you can use the above boxes for soundproofing outlets.

When laying absorbent material, remember that the depth of a standard socket is 45 mm. That is, you need to make sure that you can then install it in place!

If the neighbors are too loud or this method did not help you, then you can replace the built-in wiring product with an invoice. Then you can lay a cork of absorbing material of greater thickness and cover it with a solution.

We examined how and how to insulate sockets, mounting boxes and switches. The cheapest option is without transfer, with a through hole plastering or insulating material laying. But do not make soundproofing of outlets with foam, it is fire hazard. There are tips on the network that you can use refractory foam, it differs from regular foam in red or pink. This is a perfectly acceptable, albeit controversial, decision.
