How to route a cable through a corrugated pipe

Cable installation in the corrugation is most often carried out during drywall wiringas well as in the screed floor. A self-extinguishing corrugated pipe is also used during electrical work in a wooden house. It will be quite problematic for a person without experience to pass a conductor, because its end can cling to the inner walls of the corrugated pipe. In fact, the broaching technology is not difficult, so if you do not know how to stretch the cable in the corrugation, we recommend that you read the instructions below.

Mounting technology

To make the information easier to perceive, we will provide it step by step:

  1. Measure with a tape measure and cut the required number of corrugated tubes. Cut best with a clerical knife. Be careful - there is wire inside the pipe. It should be eaten with side cutters while holding, so that after a snack the wire does not drown inside the corrugation. If this happens, you can get a broach only by cutting the pipe to the required length.
  2. The end of the wire must be connected to the cable. The easiest way to do this is by gently bending the string with a hook and breaking through the edge of isolation (this technology is clearly shown in the video below). An alternative way is to simply wrap the string several times around the cable. After this, it is necessary to insulate the connection point so that the protrusions do not cling when the conductor is drawn.Correct connection
  3. The free end of the broach must be securely locked. If you work together with a partner, he just needs to hold the wire. If you carry out the electrical installation yourself, you can fix the broach to the battery, doorknob or other fixed object. The purpose of the fastening is to further create tension so that it is more convenient to stretch the cable in the corrugation.Threading a conductor through a pipe
  4. The last thing left is to tighten the wire inward the entire length. This should be done carefully if you overdo it with tension - a break can occur at the junction of the broach and cable, which will create a lot of trouble.
Overview of the entire event

That's actually the whole installation technology. As you can see, pulling a wire or cable through a corrugated pipe is not very difficult. The last thing that remains is to fix the corrugation on the clips. However, we provided the most successful situation. There are more complicated cases when it is problematic to stretch a conductor, for example, if there is no broach. Below we consider all the force majeure situations.

About what aretypes of corrugations for cableread in the article we referred to!

Custom cases

The first and most common situation - when pulling the string tears off the conductor due to strong tension. In this case, it is recommended that the part of the corrugation that is already threaded be cut off and left, then reconnect the wire to the end of the cable and finish drawing. Two pieces of corrugated pipe are then connected with electrical tape.

Pulling the wire through the corrugation, if there is no broach, is also not difficult.Simply bend the end of the conductor through 180about and insulate so that it does not cling to the inside of the pipe, and then push the product through the entire desired length. This technology is clearly demonstrated in the video below:

How to get a wire without a probe

If you have little space in the apartment and you yourself need to run a long section of corrugated pipe, for example, 30 meters, it’s not always possible to do it in the room without experience. In this case, it is recommended to first connect the cable to the string, then go out into the staircase and on the upper floor fix the free end of the wire to the railing. After that, stretch the corrugation until the problem is solved. Or use the Health drive, as shown in the following video (second minute):

Sometimes it becomes necessary to stretch a conductor in a corrugated pipe along the ceiling, or rather, inside a suspended structure made of drywall. This is difficult to do, because if the sheets are already sewn up, installation must be carried out through the strobes under the lamps. In this case, a regular string will help to get the corrugated pipe through the ceiling. In the video lesson, the masters clearly demonstrated the essence of the work:

How to lay a corrugated hose through a plasterboard ceiling

Well, the last situation that I would like to describe is the laying of a cable with rubber insulation in the corrugation. The difficulty lies in the fact that during pulling there is strong friction between the walls of the corrugated pipe and the insulation of the conductor. As a result, even the wire does not facilitate the process, and if there is still no broach, in this case it is generally unrealistic to carry out the installation. Special grease comes to the rescue, for example, 3M Wire Pulling Lubricant, with which you can quickly pull the cable through a corrugated pipe. The cost of such a lubricant is a little high, however, if you often perform electrical work, we recommend that you purchase it, because one bottle is enough for a long time.

Special gel lubricant for cable products

That's all the information that we wanted to provide. Please note that tighten the cable with a cross section of 3 * 1.5 mm2 better in a pipe with a diameter of 16 mm. At the same time, for a cross section of 3 * 2.5 mm2 need a diameter of 20 mm. Now you know how to pull the cable into the corrugation with your own hands and what to do if there is no broach!

In fact, it is not recommended to connect segments of the corrugation with electrical tape, and in a number of sources it is indicated that this is generally not permissible. It is necessary to use special docking tubes.
