Power supply more powerful than LED strip: is it dangerous?
Hello! A question. I have 5 m of LED strip 9 W / m, and a 48 W power supply. I want to cut 2 meters of tape, which will be a total of 18 watts. Can I connect 2 meters of 18 W tape to a 48 W power supply? Will the power difference be too large for the tape to burn out and is it being done at all? (12V tape, this characteristic is suitable for the power supply)
Hello! You understood everything correctly, but exactly the opposite. The power supply must have a power margin. The tape will take as much as it needs, even if the power supply is 500 watts.
But if you connect the other way around - there is a lot of tape to a weak power supply unit, then the unit will burn or will not turn on (it will go into defense). The block should have a power margin of 20-30%, but in general - the more the better, but without fanaticism.
