How to calculate the cost of electrical work - make an estimate

Before proceeding with the installation of electricity in the house, you need to draw up a wiring diagram, as well as an estimate for the materials. This is necessary in order to calculate the approximate (or even accurate) costs and during wiring not to encounter a situation where there is not enough money for sockets or switches. Based on the prepared cost table, you can understand whether there are enough material resources or is it better to purchase cheaper materials in order to surely get away from problems with shortages. Next, we will tell you how to make an estimate for electrical work, providing step-by-step instructions with a video, as well as a sample.

Step 1 - Preparing Documents

First of all, you need to prepare documentation, on the basis of which a cost estimate for electrical installation will be carried out. For calculations you need to collect the following documents:

  1. Floor plan on which the wiring diagram will be indicated.
  2. Project for the placement of electrical equipment.
  3. Technical conditions to be taken from the electricity supplier (if necessary). About, how to get technical conditions for power supply, we told in a separate article.
  4. Permission to connect to the mains (if necessary).

Settlement work

In addition, depending on the situation and features of the facility, an act on balance sheet ownership, a document on the limitation of operational responsibility, as well as a work order for the supply of electrical equipment may be needed. All these documents are used to a greater extent in enterprises. As a rule, in order to make an estimate for electrical work in a residential building, it is enough to prepare the first 2 documents from the list, as well as a permit for the electrical installation.

Step 2 - Perform the calculation

It is not too difficult to calculate the cost of installing electrical wiring, but you will have to take this procedure seriously enough. The more points will be indicated in the estimate, the less chance that at the end of wiring situations will arise, because of which you will have to overpay. So, the preparation of estimates for electrical work consists of the following steps:

  1. Obtaining a floor plan with reference to electrical appliances. It can be taken in the BTI.
  2. Registration of permission for connection to the power supply network.
  3. Bringing all technical conditions to standards.
  4. Quantity calculation materials for wiring based on the wiring diagram.
  5. Search for the best deals on materials.
  6. Costing.

If after you make an estimate on electrical installation in the house, it turns out that there is not enough money, you will have to revise the project and, if possible, either remove some electrical points or purchase cheaper materials.

This instruction is suitable for those who want to independently calculate the cost of installing electricians.If you doubt that you can make an estimate of the electrical installation work, it is better to entrust this matter to specialists, but they will understandably take money for this. Another important point is who will perform the electrical installation. Would you like to conduct electrical wiring in your own house? Then miss this moment. If it is understood that the company or a private electrician will conduct the electrician, it is necessary to find out what the cost of wiring, as well as the dismantling of the old network (if the apartment is not a new building) will be, and be sure to include this figure in the estimate.

Installation costs

We draw your attention to the fact that many companies offering electricity services have their own online calculators on the sites, with which you can quickly calculate the cost of wiring. In the same place, as a rule, you can also find prices for the installation of certain electrical points (sockets, switches, meters), cable laying and wall shredding for wiring. This information will allow you to easily calculate the cost of electrical work at new prices.

It should also be noted that the estimates are complex (for the whole object) or local (for a separate room / room).

It is best to create a cost plan in Microsoft Excel. All you need is to download this program to your computer, install and create a table in it. Next, enter all the values in the table, and then make calculations based on the formulas. An example of how an estimate is made for electrical work in Excel is described in a video example:

Prices for 2019

Well, the last thing I would like to provide is the estimated prices for installing electricians in residential premises. So, in 2019, the cost of wiring is as follows:

  • installation of the cable channel (1 mp) - 120-180 p. (depending on the material of the walls and dimensions of the product);

  • installation of a circuit breaker - 300-600;
  • installation of the shield - from 1500 to 5000 r .;
  • connection of a wall sconce - 700 r .;
  • installation of the outlet - 300 r.
